These Megaproject Failures Wasted Billions

One of the most talked about acts of ridiculous spending has been Jeff Bezos and his enormous multimillion dollar clock that only ticks once a year for 10,000 years. Supposedly it was constructed to foster thinking aimed at the future but all it really does is make everyone concerned about how Bezos spends his money. It turns out that ridiculous projects that lose big money are constantly happening left and right.

Space is a place where no one can hear money scream. While we’ve sent people to the moon and will likely send people to live on Mars in the near future, these success stories come on the backs of massive failures with huuuge losses. These losses can be to the tune of billions of dollars. When the space race between the US and the Soviet Union was at its height, both nations threw a ton of money to get their nation above the clouds to pass more benchmarks than the other.

Then there’s the ill-fated Biosphere 2. It was a huge closed off ecological structure that may just show how people could live on Mars one day. Unfortunately, mismanagement, complications and interpersonal squabbles made even living on Earth nigh impossible for the Biospherans picked to live there.

Then we have project Star Gate, possibly the strangest experiment involving psychics and the CIA you’re liable to hear about today.
